Psychographic results

Psychographic results

These are the pyscographic results for our questionnaire which helps us specifically indentify with the audience of the band we want to market, such as their hobbies and likes and dislikes. The majority of people we asked are creative, arty people. These people would also go to parties or hang around in parks to socialise, which helps us with different ideas we could have for the video.

These results show that the biggest social event with our target audience are parties. because of this result we will try and involve parties or a party atmosphere in our video to meet the demands of the audience.

The results of this question helps us come to the conclusion that our characters should include these characteristics in order for our audience to feel like they can relate to the characters.

This helps our group know that we must ensure our main characters are confident and a loud personality in order for our audience to relate to the character yet again and enjoy the music video more.

This question portrays that most of our audience enjoy art or drama and therefore are outgoing people with an outgoing personality and therefore our characters will have these personalities.

General Music Questions

These questions show us what kind of music the people we targeted with the questions would enjoy, most of the people we asked do enjoy the indie genre which is useful in finding our target audience because we can base it on their results.

YouTube was a popular option which shows that people like to access music for free and also enjoy the   option of watching the video simultaneously. This also tells us where we should make our video accessible in order to get the widest views possible, which will help to make it as popular as possible.

Whilst listening to just the music was the mot popular option, many of our sample also enjoy to watch the video alongside the song. This means that videos are important to the marketing of the song and the opinions of the  target audience should be taken into consideration whilst it is being made.

The majority of our sample said that they expect a narrative about love/relationships in music videos therefore we should include this in our own video in order to meet the expectations of the target audience. Additionally, partying/friendship was another popular option therefore these themes should also be included in order to please the target audience and attempt to make the video as popular as possible.

Indie music was a very popular option. This shows that the choice of indie music was a good one since it is popular and current therefore follows modern trends.

Indie Music

These results show us the different opinions that the people we had would have of indie music.

Since male characters are most popular in our results to appear in indie music videos, our group will include a male character in order to please and appeal to the target audience.

Most of the people we asked were interested in bands such as Arctic Monkeys and Florence and the Machine, this shows us that although they like indie music they also like the mainstream bands.

Most people would also like a conceptual video which would also help us with the band we want to make videos of etc.

We will use the least popular choices for our own music video in order follow the indie genre conventions but make our own video stand out more from others and more "individual", which is a feature of the indie genre.

The majority of people we asked said that they expect the band members to be scruffy, we could then apply this to the band that we want to portray.

This is an overview video we made to explain the indie genre and reasons for our choices within this media project, how we met the genre conventions, how we challeneged them, how to met the expectations of our target audience and much more.

Demographics

These are the results for the demographic questions in our questionnaire. We can take from these that the majority of people we asked are white middle class girls, this would therefore shows us the kind of music that they listened too, and could also help us target the correct target audience.

To keep the questionnaire and results valid and fair, we attempted to try and get the
answers from a similar ratio for males and females

The majority of our Target Audience for the indie genre and for our song and video in particular
is 15-18 so we tried to receive answers from this age range, in order to make our research and statistics valid, which would help us receive a valid response and could potentially improve our ideas for the video.

as our music genre and video are aimed at mainly working class and middle class people, we have achieved our target audience, as most of the people who will listen to indie music are less than upper class. This will ensure that we succeed in the making of our video because of feedback from a valid and relative audience and we will produce a product which our target audience enjoys and fits their exact needs.

Indie music is mostly aimed at a Caucasian ethnic group. Therefore because we have collected results from this
group in particular, our outcome will be successful because we have stuck to the target audience.

we have discovered from this sample that the most common religions were Christian, Catholic and Hindu.

Record Labels

Domino Records

Domino Records logo.png
Domino Recording Company, generally known as Domino, is an independent record label based in London

They are a UK indie label varying in music genres such as post-rock, indie, IDM, downtempo and electronica.

Domino's record label was actually founded in 1993, by a man named Laurence Bell and his partner Jacqui Rice. Domino Recording Company have caused famous releases from artists such as Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkey and The Kills.

In October 2005, Domino celebrated their first UK number 1 album with Franz Ferdinand's "You Could Have It So Much Better" and their first UK number 1 single with Arctic Monkeys "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" Later that month.

Domino Records also has studios in New York, Germany and France, which becomes obvious that this label is successful enough to release music worldwide rather than locally, however it did not all begin like that for Domino, as at first, labels such as Domino who mainly released unusual American rock and British music were underachieving during the Brit-pop era, but fortunately the label signed many up and coming artists who would make the label successful quickly.

Domino's official website (above)
The Website for the record label appears to be very successful and well known because of the professional appearance and because of the cross media convergence, the way it connects with social networking websites which advertises the record label throughout the internet. They also inform people of the artists that they sign and the many hits they have been successful with it.

They keep an up to date article page of news of the label and the bands/artists, they advertise their recommended featured artists as well as

displaying a chart of the most listened to songs from the site, indicating which songs that they have released are quite popular, which automatically connotes that the company is well known and repspected if people are listening to their music on their site rather than sticking the the mainstream charts, this shows that this label is indie, as it displays songs that you might not be able to get anywhere else and rates them in popularity.

Rough Trade Records

Rough Trade Records is an independent record label based in London. It all began as a small record shop off Ladbroke Grove opened by Travis in 1978. The record label successfully sold records by punk and indie/indie pop bands such as the famous band ''The Smiths'' and ''Buzzcocks''.
Geoff Travis began managing the success of act and bands such as Scritti Geoff Politti and soon started to succeed with starting his label ''Rough Trade Records''.

Because in the late 1980's there were a lot of interest in the UK indie scene and overtrading, this led to cash flow problems and eventually the record ran into a huge problem of bankruptcy. This sent the label downhill however Travis brought the label back to success in the late 90's, managing The Libertines, The Strokes and Antony and the Johnsons.
